Performance
Combustion engines are less than 15% efficient at converting fuel energy
into work. Electric motors have efficiencies of over 90%. The fact that
electric motors don't idle makes them 10 times more efficient than
combustion engines. Electric tractors also don't have the daily maintenance
costs associated with combustion engines.
- The 5 kWh on-board battery pack will power the tractor all day for light
duty applications. It will power a 48" mower for 2 hours and a loader of
forklift for about 3 hours. A 1 kW PV array will recharge the on-board
battery pack in one day.
- The cost of charging the 5 kWh battery pack at $.10 per kWh is
approximately $.50 which is a fraction of the daily operating cost of a
diesel tractor.
- The 10 kWh Auxiliary Battery Pack will power the tractor when used as a
loader or forklift all day. It will power a 72" mower for 3 hours and a 48"
rototiller for 2 hours. It will pull a one bottom plow for about 4 hours.
The 4 kW PV roof will charge the 10 kWh Battery Pack in about half a day.
- The 20 kWh Auxiliary Battery Pack will power a one bottom plow all day, a
72" mower for 6 hours, and a 48" rototiller for 4 hours. It will power an
energy efficient home for 4 days. The 4 kW PV roof will charge the 20 kWh
Auxiliary Battery Pack in about one day.
- All day operation can be achieved for any implement with 2 Auxiliary
Battery Packs.
- Uni-Solar unbreakable triple junction thin film amorphous technology pays
back the energy of manufacture in about 2 months of use.
- Uni-Solar PV roofing converts about 6% of the solar radiation striking
the panel into electricity.
The estimated cost for the standard tractor in small quantities is $25,000. This price is expected to drop to $15,000 when tractor production is over 1,000 units per year.
